My favorite project in Science class this year was Energy Source Brochure. I learned all the ways that energy is made. I worked with a partner and we did our project on coal power plants. It seemed really simple to just burn the coal and you get energy but I realized there are different steps to it. I learned the process they use to turn coal into energy. It was somewhat simple; but it was a difficult process too. The information I learned about coal energy in this project can help me in life. I might even get to see a real coal plant someday. It will help me in life because I will know where the energy I use comes from. I also have the possibility to get a job involving energy. I could even work at a power plant with the background knowledge I now have. I will miss Mr. Reduzzi because he is a great teacher and made class a lot of fun! I hope I learn as much in the years to come as I did this year in Mr. Reduzzi’s science class! -Kaitlyn Vargo 6-M
Work Sample! I enjoyed the testing very much because we got to experiment ourselves and it was fun.
Testing with pH Paper
Out of the 4 compounds the most acidic one is orange juice and the most basic one is sodium bicarbonate.
1) Orange Juice
2) Sodium Bicarbonate
3) Vinegar
4) Sodium Hydroxide
5) pH paper
Take a strip of pH paper and dip it into the first liquid. Take it out and use the color chart to determine if it is a base, neutral, or an acid. Throw out the strip and repeat the process until all 4 liquids have been tested.
